I’ve played more Descent than I can remember. And its sequel. And Freespace. And its sequel. My point is that I’ve always had a soft spot for Volition, Inc. On a trip to Champaign, Illinois to break us all the coverage about Saints Row: The Third, Game Informer managed to turn a series of interviews with the team into an hour-long documentary about the 18-year history of Volition.
What surprised me the most was that there were quite a few people in the interview that had been with the company since inception. While they had a bit of a rough patch in the early aughties with a series of not-great PS2 games (ew), they came back with great games like Saints Row, Saints Row 2, and Red Faction: Guerrilla, the latter two are some of my favorite games of the past few years.
