Combiform – A New Take On Social Gaming (UPDATED)

Posted by on August 21, 2012 at 2:20 pm

It’s like Kinect without the embarrassing speech features.

Update: Due to internal changes with Combiform, they have decided to withdraw their Kickstarter Campaign to rework their product messaging. Don’t worry though, Combiform has told us that they are tweaking the product and message and will bring back the Kickstarter campaign very soon! We here at FleshEatingZipper wish them best of luck and look forward to seeing them back in action!

What is the first thought that comes to your mind when you see the words “social gaming” plastered on your computer screen? Typically you’ll think of Farmville or that stupid vampire game my friends keep requesting me to play. Combiform, a social gaming console, is about to change the way everyone thinks of gaming socially – for the better.

You can’t accidentally break the TV with that. OR CAN YOU?

Let me break it down for you. Combiform’s “console” is a funky lookin’ controller that connects wirelessly to your mobile device. Their goal is to take players attention away from the couch/TV (mostly) and focus it towards other users. It reminds me of a mix between the Wii and Kinect, but without the gimmicks. Words do little justice, so you’ll have to watch the videos to get a real understanding of how it works.

At first sight, it looks darn right silly. But once you witness their vision of “social innovation over technological innovation” spread its wings, you’ll want to join right in.

Feeling a little anti-social? No worries. You can look like a fool using the unique combining features all by your lonesome.

I’ve got a real problem with video games lately. After an hour of sitting infront of the TV or computer screen, ass-fatigue begins to set in. That and my eyes get all dry and red from not blinking. Combiform is the perfect solution to my problem. Not only does it bring people together (quite literally), but it offers a completely different style of gaming that doesn’t involve gawking at a screen. If this Kickstarter is funded, I definitely see Combiform brought to parties. When you’ve got beer pong as one of the games offered – uh yeah. Sold.
