The Thief series is a very sentimental set of games for a very passionate group of gamers. A once exclusive to the PC, the games redefined the stealth genre from the first person perspective, adding shades of horror and incredible immersion. Now nearly a decade since the last game, gaming has changed and Thief is changing along with it, but it’s for better or worse depending on how flexible your appreciation for the series is.
Where fans will appreciate it
Dropped outside Northcrest Manor to steal a massive diamond, you’re given multiple ways to infiltrate the residence. Your light detection orb remains, but safe darkness is indicated by a shimmering shroud vignette that was a little distracting visually. Guards seemed to patrol the grounds in set patterns, which felt a little too old school for my taste. If they mix it up, they went through the demo too quickly to see. The AI did seem a little more observant to your actions.
