The New Tabs in Gmail Suck

You're worthless!

You’re worthless!

At the beginning of June, Gmail started rolling out its new tabbed inbox. I thought it was cool at first, but now it’s just a pain in the ass. Let me start off by saying that I don’t label a lot of my email and that could be one of the reasons but also, there’s really no need to label mail. Let me break it down.

I use Gmail primarily on my phone and email acts as a task list and reference to content for me. It’s not something that I want to browse. If I need something further out than a day I know enough details to do a quick search and find what I’m looking for. Gmail search is awesome for that. If it’s something super important, I star it.

Gmail’s new tabbed interface is pretty much automatic labels and it’s usually wrong. The tabs are so very broad, except for “forum” – that’s oddly specific – and something that I didn’t think a lot of people use nowadays (except for us, of course). I seriously jump back and forth between tabs just to find an emails that I get during the day. It’s a waste of time.

The thing that is killing me also is that I don’t know what I would do it make it better, I mean, I never asked for this! What are your thoughts on the Gmail tabs? Am I just different?
