1. It’s a boxing movie, and
2. He plays a character very far from “type.”

However, his stock in the industry might still be stinging from that whole “Terminator: WHAT THE FUCK IS IT WITH YOU” tantrum at his DoP a while back.

The King’s Speech might fall flat this year, as well. It’ll be interesting to see. It’s the only really obvious prestige picture in the running, and there’s been a lot of speculation that the Academy is pushing away from rewarding obvious Oscar bait, especially after the fiasco surrounding TDK’s snub.

Time will tell.
