If you’re like me, or just a decent person altogether, then the mere thought of the Westboro Baptist Church may send a palm to your face, a shiver up your spine, or send your stomach churning, but in a near-unanimous ruling by the Supreme Court, America’s highest court sided with the divisive congregation.
As disgusting as their ideology may be, they’re protected under the same First Amendment rights afforded to everyone else. In their 8-1 ruling, the court said that the church had obeyed all laws in regards their funeral protests and that their message was broad enough to not be threatening to the event at hand. Just goes to further show that in America, we can’t ban a message simply because we disagree with it, although those Antichrist Obama signs are hilarious.
