My argument isnt that the PS3 doesn’t have features. They just aren’t that exciting to the market that handhelds tend to target. Again, not a bad system, just going to be difficult to sell.

Even at $250 you have to realize a lot of people don’t judge systems based on a cost vs features comparison. It’s just Sys A vs Sys B. I mean *I* can appreciate the power difference between a Vita and a 3DS, but I don’t need a handheld. I have multiple consoles for gaming at home a Laptop for travel and a phone for playing puzzle games on my lunch hour. My little sister wants a 3DS for Xmas and I doubt I can to get her to care about resolution and video memory and waiting just a couple more months
(I mean really, are they just pretending Xmas isn’t a thing?) for more processing power. It’s just a fact that the handheld markets trend younger and casual and younger casual gamers like cheap (regardless of how it started a 3DS is 169 now), simple, fun games. The Android/iOS fact is just true and the fact that it is also highlights why the Vita will have a rough time. Handhelds live in an Angry Birds style world. Angry Birds now with more complicated levels and 10X the detail in bird feathers will have a hard time outselling Angry Birds 3D.

It certainly has features, but they’re attached to a boat anchor. There’s no future here for dedicated, even high end game machines. What Nintendo taught us is that standalone, ripping gaming hardware, even in the industry’s prime, can’t handle. Whether it’s Sega or Sony’s PSP, none can tackle Nintendo’s glory. Now that Android and iOS are eating Nintendo’s and Sony’s lunch in the mobile gaming space, having them put this much hardware into something that is fundamentally unconnected and unready for the future just shows how wrong-headed their strategy is.

The Vita is going to kick ass and sell really well. If you think otherwise you either just want it to fail or you know nothing about it.

Touch screens, 1:1 motion sensing, most advanced AR gaming in the world, performance near that of the PS3, portability, its OLED screen, rear touch pad… the selling points are too many to list.
The price of the Vita isn’t $300 plus 3G fees, it’s $250. Screw 3G, plus none of it is forced.

The Vita offers a handheld gaming experience with zero control compromises- hell, the only real compromise is its battery life.

It’s definitely idiotic to think that selling a product most people expected to be priced at $400 for only $250 is anything but a downhill battle. Look at the game lineup for the Vita. Racing, RPGs, action-adventure, shooters, puzzlers, music games, platformers… pretty much every genre is represented with multiple high-quality games and they’re all releasing in the Vita’s launch window.

Just out of curiosity. What aspect of the system do you think is not a dead end? My understanding, based on the PS website, is that their selling points for the system are touchscreens and (if you want to pay another 50 bucks and whatever price AT&T wants to charge monthly) 3G? I don’t think anyone is going to consider either of those things an evolutionary leap for handhelds. It basically has all the cool innovative features of a good cellphone! Minus the 4G.
Now that’s not to say it will be a bad system. The hardware is good and the release lineup is solid if not imo “extremely impressive” but I think it’s definitely not “idiotic” to think that selling the Vita at $300(+$25/month if you want all the features) will be an uphill battle.

Yeah, no. This is the best game hardware to ever release. Nothing is better than this system and it will sell millions of units in its first week easily. The game lineup is also extremely impressive. Don’t say such idiotic stuff when you know nothing about the subject matter, it makes the website look stupid as hell.
