Building Oceana: The Verge’s Minecraft Pyramid – Week Two

Seatown Hurt

The day before, the ops (moderators) had received a tip that a particular poster was found in someone’s home, stealing items and griefing the structure. With only a watermelon in hand, the owner began to punch the perpetrator, who logged out. The ops were on alert for this guy to verify if he had the stolen goods on him when he returned. It wasn’t long afterward that he was apprehended and banned. His friend had received word about this and, still playing, is believed to have snuck away to Seatown.

When I received word to head to Seatown, I was well into completing the gates for the pyramid’s third tier with the goal of capping the pyramid’s infrastructure by the following night. Upon arrival, we found most of the op-developed ocean fortress shredded to bits, some by deliberate use of TNT. Several ops worked together over the next few hours to recreate the town as it was using an outdated version of the server’s dynamic map (which we’d, ironically, complained wasn’t updating properly). Working through all of Seatown’s damage was a reminder that any structure was free to be wrecked by any wandering idiot and that even our work on Oceana would perhaps be tested at some point. To date, several users have dropped lava falls from high points inside the pyramid, creating a mess of cobblestone and lava below. Those users were subsequently banned.

Capping the Pyramid

It seems a little early to be celebratory considering all the work that still needs to be accomplished, but in light of our work so far, it seemed appropriate. We worked through the afternoon to create the third, fourth, and fifth tiers in their proper locations in the sky, the last of which was wrapped in tunnels and capped with the final glass pyramid (one that’ll eventually house Club Disqo, the hotspot I’d intended to put in TFXR Tower). Entegy caught the event on film (don’t mind the orange tint):

Stay tuned next week as I bring you further updates on our massive Minecraft project!
