Silicon Knights Ordered To Destroy Games, Finally
Too Bad
As if by some miracle, Silicon Knights will be removing their current games from the shelves. What? Let’s be honest, you’ve probably never played a game developed by them. All of their projects to date have been nothing but giant whiskey-dicked flops. The crew behind Silicon Knights aren’t destroying their games because they want to, although I’m sure it’s been on their to-do list for awhile.

Falling In Love With Peter Molyneux’s ‘Curiosity’
It’s a big ol’ cube!
Before Microsoft acquired his Lionhead Studios, world-famous game designer Peter Molyneux was known for shepherding quirky games. Before they became “The Fable Company”, they brought us the Black & White games and Hollywood simulator The Movies, a personal favorite. Before that though, Molyneux had launched and built Bullfrog, home of some of the best strategy games of the golden era of PC gaming. Well, now he’s out on his own with company 22 Cans, a strange incubator of quirky new games. I only know this because I’ve played Curiosity, a game that isn’t easy to recommend.

Sleep Tight Review: Hey! A Horror Movie That Isn’t Based on a Found Footage Concept!
Warning: This review contains massive spoilers.
In 2007, the directing duo of Juame Balagueró and Paco Plaza made a big splash into the horror scene when they released Rec, the first movie to combine the zombie genre with the found footage genre. They went on to further line their pockets when they released a successful sequel in 2009. But then the co-directors went their separate ways. Paco Plaza proceeded to pull down his trousers and squirt out the hot, slimy piece shit that was [Rec] 3: Genesis, and Juame Balagueró turned his talents toward producing Sleep Tight, a discomforting, creepy little horror gem. The understated brilliance of this movie settles the question of which side of the Rec collaboration contained all of the creative talent.

Skyfall Review: Destined to Be a Classic
The Bond movie we’ve been waiting for.
Fifty years after his cinematic debut in Dr. No, James Bond is still alive and kicking. Following the awful Die Another Day and the rise in popularity of the Bourne series a decade ago, the prospects for 007’s continuing dominance of the spy-actioner genre looked bleak. Bond had become too corny, too clichéd, too dated; meanwhile, Bourne was new and sexy and fresh. It’s no wonder that the filmmakers behind the last two films in the Bond series rejected all of the hallmarks of the franchise, favoring instead the gritty, frenetic approach of their competitors. With the Sam Mendes-helmed Skyfall, however, Bond once again embraces all of the hallmarks and symbols that made him so iconic in the first place. Ironically, by firmly embracing the cinematic heritage of Ian Fleming’s secret agent, Mendes and crew have crafted a spy thriller that’s ultimately fresher and more engaging than any action vehicle that’s been released in the past few years. Skyfall isn’t just a great Bond movie, it’s a great action movie, too.

5 Things I Love About The Japanese
Like a bazaar, only more modernerer.
Oh, those crazy Japanese.
They’ve brought us things like ramen noodles, Blu-ray, Hello Kitty and Mario. I don’t think many Americans realize the impact the Japanese have had on our culture in the last 40 years or so and will likely continue to have over the next 40. I’ve been a big fan of Japan of Japanese culture for a long time, though and now I’m going to share with you 5 of my favorite things which have been introduced to us by our brothers and sisters across the Pacific.

NPD: ‘XCOM: Enemy Unknown’ Sales Disappoint
Keep blastin’, guys.
If you’re a hardcore game forumer, you realize the important part of any month is that second Thursday when NPD retail sales are released. Long the lifeblood of fanboy wars, the statistics – which are part of an expensive report sold to analysts, journalists, and platform holders – have been increasingly shrouded over the past few years. While the Xbox 360 continues to outsell the rest, video game sales continue to decline, and no one’s buying a PlayStation Vita, the biggest surprise came in XCOM: Enemy Unknown sales. In short: there weren’t many.
