Not only are you officially allowed to stop shaving today (if you’re a man, of course), but today marks the first day of the National Novel Writing Month, or NaNoWriMo for short. Long-time participant Amy wrote about it last year, and it’s hard to believe it’s already been eleven months since that hurried and intense writing session ended. If you’re unfamiliar, NaNoWriMo participants challenge themselves – and others – to write a 50,000 novel (or novella, in that range). How intense is it? Pretty intense.

Why Are Free To Play Games So Annoying?
Why is this stuff so annoying? The answer is simple.
Before Zynga’s value fell through the floor, they built on an entire company on selling virtual items in games that were free to play. If you wanted to make those crops come up or complete structures faster, you could enlist your credit card to make your dreams come true. Their model wasn’t anything new, companies out of Korea and Japan had perfected the model years before, but Zynga was a star because they were the first American company to ‘get it’ and apply their lessons to up-and-coming startup Facebook. These free to play games have proliferated but still attract a weird aura because of their intrusive begging for your dollars. So why do they do it? Because, otherwise, you won’t buy anything.

I don’t know what “Pid” Means but it looks pretty cool.
The new genre defying game “Pid” has been on the tongues of many of the past several months as Might and Delight has been working to get this new adventure game polished up and released to the masses. Now it has finally released and we have the release trailer here, which shows many of the gameplay elements and gives us a great idea what the story is about.

Siri is a pretty cool piece of technology and everyone is trying to emulate it. I’m a little surprised that Google has been taking so long to actually come out with something better. Guys: in case you didn’t know, Star Wars happened today. George Lucas learned that he was, in fact, mortal, and decided that the franchise would be best place in the hands of Disney to the tune of four billion dollars. In the same breath, Lucas, new Lucasfilm president Kathleen Turner and Disney announced that work would begin on a new sequel trilogy, consisting of the New Republic’s adventures following the fall of Vader, Palpatine, and the second Death Star. Few details are known at this point, primarily because Lucas is probably still making them up, but where will they go?
