Ravaged – Beta Impressions

Fallout Meets Team Fortress? OK!

Today I got a chance to sit down and play 2 dawn’s new title Ravaged – which is in beta – and spend some time with the developers getting a feel for the game. After a couple of hours of lone-wolf play time I hopped in with the group from 2 dawn to get down team-style and put some bullets in some dev faces.

What did I think about it? We’ll, I’ll tell ya!

Sinister Review: The Best Horror Movie You’re Likely to See This Season

What’s in the box?!? What’s in the…oh wait, wrong movie.

After the brilliant Cabin in the Woods came out earlier this year and skewered pretty much every other horror movie ever made, I found myself wondering if filmmakers Joss Whedon and Drew Goddard had broken the horror genre. Could horror movies ever be scary again after every technique and trope in the genre had been painstakingly deconstructed and mercilessly mocked? Well, the answer to the question comes in the form of Sinister from director Scott Derrickson, and that answer is a resounding “yes!” Sinister is one of those rare horror movies that (mostly) eschews cheap thrills and opts instead for instilling a sense of lingering dread in its audience. It’s the kind of movie that leaves you wanting to make sure that your home security lights are working and that all of your doors are locked after you get home from the cinema.

Windows 8 Ads Everywhere: Microsoft To Spend Over $1 Billion Promoting New OS

Yes. Yeeeeesssssss, stare directly into the Windows 8 logo…

On the kitchen counter. On the hood of a hot sports car. On your girlfriend’s lower back. These are all places you can expect to find a Windows 8 ad this holiday as the software giant prepares to spend a gargantuan amount of skrilla making people aware of their new Metro-themed tile-based, tablet-friendly operating system. Launching on October 26th, eleven years after the still-dominant Windows XP debuted, not only will you be able to purchase a copy for your current computer, but you’ll be able to own Microsoft’s new ARM-based Surface tablet in the same trip. In case you were unaware, Windows 8 is kind of a big deal.

Virgin Mobile Paid My Phone Bill. Yep, You Heard Right

Would you still give someone a free month for being a murderer? I’m asking for a friend.

Virgin Mobile, the number one prepaid cell phone service in America, has done the unthinkable! The big-wigs at VM have decided to give certain account holders (specifically me) a free month of service. Is this a desperate act or a generous offer? And why me? Read the rest of this article…

Privateer And Wing Commander Creator Is Back At It With Star Citizen

Wait, what? You mean…More space sim? SIGN ME UP!!! SRSLY!!!

When I read that Chris Roberts, the guy who created Privateer and Wing Commander, was back in the land of the living and creating another space sim style game…Well, to put it mildly I pissed myself.

You see, I grew up on Privateer and Wing Commander and the spiritual predecessor to those games, “Elite”. I was playing space sims when they were just 4 colored vector graphics and MIDI sounds on machines that were less powerful than a modern calculator.

And I loved them.

Divine Space Is Half A Step Away From A Galactic MMO

Spaceships and space? I’m in.

Russian-bourne Dodo Games is trying to raise a hundred thousand dollars to bring a space-based RPG to life. This is right up my alley and few are done right. Americans seem to have divested from the genre entirely, so now we rely on scrappy European developers to do so. Kickstarter is bringing us the latest such epic. Can it bring some new life to this the space game or will it be forever doomed to niche appeal?

Get Your Hands On Some Hairy Balls

Hairy balls! Get your hairy balls here!

Yep, you read that right. You can now get your hot little hands on some hairy balls. Once you’ve done that, you can roll them around, play with them, and feed them ding-dongs. Just make sure you don’t end up getting addicted to hairy balls because I’m pretty sure there’s no support group for that.

LG’s Rumored Nexus Phone Is Delightfully Bland

You think that backing is supposed to impress me?

More and more information’s leaking about the latest version of Google’s Nexus line of phones. The Android company has stated that they will have ‘several’ phones in their Nexus arsenal this year, but the rumor mill has only physically produced one, a model by LG with a “with Google” moniker on the back. Unfortunately, the more I see of the rumored-to-be-imminently-announced device, the less I want.

Check Out the New Additions to Frag Dolls

Esper (left) & Daze (right)

Back in July, Ubisoft’s Frag Dolls were holding an open casting call looking for a new member. I was down for it but being a guy I wasn’t qualified. Anyway, the Frag Dolls announced two new members to the team instead of one. Michelle “Esper” Roberson and Nicole “Daze” Cullop are the newest additions to the team. “We are thrilled for the new girls to be part of the Frag Doll team,” says Ellen Lee, promotions manager, Ubisoft. “Selecting the two new Frag Dolls wasn’t easy. With their incredible skills, experience, and passion for gaming, we believe that Esper and Daze’s talents will help push Frag Dolls to the next level.” Read the rest of this article…
