Season Of The Witch

Well, this one came out about 3 weeks ago and, to be honest, I was pretty “meh” about it when I saw the trailer BUT…it has Ron Perlman in it and he’s in my top 5 favorite actors of all time so I had to give it a look.

Unfortunately, even Ron Perlman couldn’t save this HORROR of a movie.

Now, before I go ripping this thing to shreds I’ll say that some of it was pretty good…mostly, those are the parts where guys with swords are running around and chopping up other guys with swords. Apart from that, however…yikes.

Bear in mind that this is supposed to take place during the 14th century, in Austria yet they cast Nick Cage in the lead role…Nick Cage…I can fart a better Austrian accent than he pulled off in this film. Ron Perlman had to avoid using an accent, I’m assuming, in order to NOT make it so obvious that Nick Cage wasn’t using one.

Though everyone else in the movie was…

Then there’s another character with a fairly major role who, despite being a native of ENGLAND, sounded like he was from Brooklyn, New York. I was just waiting for him to scream “BURN IN HELL YA RAT BASTID, YA!!”. I mean, what’s the point in having someone from the UK act with a New York accent?

Unfortunately, the whole movie followed along this same pattern of sloppy acting and direction (And I’ve come to find out that the original director was fired AFTER the pre-screening, which is no shock at all). I mean, this movie was just BAD.

That’s not to say it wasn’t a good story. I think that with better acting, MUCH better direction and a new CGI team, it could have been something…and don’t even get me started on the CGI and voice acting of one of the “characters” in the film which was, to be honest, embarrassing.

But, then again, Nick Cage’s hair is a bird so it doesn’t really matter what I think.
