Xenosaga: The Animation is a gorgeous anime loosely based on the popular RPG. Humans have left Earth to take to the stars and lifeforms — known as Gnosis — threaten our off-world existence. Shion from Vector Industries takes matters into her own hands when she creates a woman cyborg to combat the Gnosis code named KOS-MOS.
Shion is on a ship in space known as the “Woglinde” when it comes under attack by the Gnosis, she and her friends nearly end up getting killed when KOS-MOS activates and proceeds to eliminate the threat. KOS-MOS saves as many people as it can utilizing escape pods before the ship blows up. Shion and company survive and and are taken aboard a cargo ship once again meeting up with KOS-MOS and another crew to try and take back what was stolen by the Gnosis.
Unless you have played through the RPG, the characters are left somewhat unexplained, leaving this series to lose it’s appeal after the first few episodes. As voice acting goes, the English cast seems very inexpressive and the plot is underdeveloped. A lot of work went into the production’s animation and music, but that alone can’t save it. For fans of the game, this series is worth a watch, but not so much for everyone else.
