Netflix Might be Getting Original Programming

Deadline Hollywood is reporting that Netflix might be getting original programming. Their sources say that Netflix has outbid several cable networks including HBO and AMC for a new drama series House of Cards. The new series would have at least 2 seasons with a total of 26 episodes directed by David Fincher starring Kevin Spacey who is also an executive producer. The deal is estimated to be worth over $100 million based off other high end drama’s that cost $4 – $6 million per show.

Our British friends may have heard of the mini series House of Cards which this new show will be based on as well as the book but of course adapted for an American audience. This will be Fincher’s TV debut but he is not new to directing. He has directed big blockbusters such as Social Network and Fight Club.

This is a pretty smart move for Netflix who dominates the streaming market with 61%. As a Netflix subscriber I just hope the show doesn’t suck and maybe if it takes off they’ll try and bring back some cancelled series like Firefly. Probably won’t happen but a guy can hope…
