I love Star Wars. I enjoy Robot Chicken. So I don’t understand why these things can’t exist in perfect harmony. Not far removed from Seth Green and Matt Senreich’s stop-motion comedy show is a new series produced by Lucasfilm called Star Wars: Detours that provides all of Robot Chicken’s quirk in a thoroughly-researched Star Wars setting. I want it. All of it.
Watching the trailer, we see a lot of easy Star Wars humor, but there’s something so charming about the whole thing. Whether it’s the character designs or how adorably the subject matter is treated, it’s both shockingly predictable and absolutely endearing. The show takes place between trilogies and is obviously meant to exist in some outer halo of Star Wars canon, but that’s plenty good enough for me. Also, have you seen the guest stars this show is going to have (per Wikipedia)?
Dee Bradley Baker
Ahmed Best as Jar Jar Binks
Anthony Daniels as C-3PO
Billy Dee Williams as Lando Calrissian
and “Weird Al” Yankovic
Yes, that’s a real list! That’s fantastic! No one quite knows which network or date it’ll be arriving, likely because Lucas is still chatting with studios, but I wouldn’t doubt it’s Cartoon Network once more. I expect this to land some time this fall.
