The Day The (Star Wars) Animation Died: ‘Detours’ And ‘Clone Wars’ Suspended Indefinitely

Anyone else remember that Star Wars: Lo Mein Flash cartoon? Exactly what this reminds me of.

Well, just continue to wait, then.

More heartbreak from the land of Lucasfilm as a corporate re-alignment is bringing LucasArts Animation to a grinding halt. As part of their big announcement today, Lucasfilm is winding down production on Clone Wars and putting the comedic (well, that will certainly vary) Detours, from the guys who make Robot Chicken, in some kind of Kessel Run where they’re trapped for more than twelve parsecs. Because, y’know, the Kessel Run involves a bunch of black holes, y’know?

The biggest reason? Disney’s making three new big movies and they don’t want their animated efforts mucking up things. Tonally, I guess it wouldn’t make much sense to have these around when the cool older brother is trying to pick up chicks with real movies like Episode VII. It’s not that these shows are canceled by any means, but that their new TBD release date on new content is far from assuring that we’ll ever see them again.
