Yesterday, Sony showed a teaser for Roland Emmerich’s “storm the capital” movie that doesn’t happen to be called Independence Day. Details are really scarce, but comparisons to Gerard Butler’s recent White House thriller are inevitable.
Unfortunately, the teaser doesn’t reveal much, because duh, but you can easily derive that this is an Emmerich film because of the elaborate destruction of our nation’s landmarks. Channing Tatum, a guy who I wouldn’t have put much faith into a few years ago, is now the President’s bodyguard against a paramilitary group assaulting the capital. (Paramount had the same change of heart in delaying G.I. Joe Retaliation to not kill Channing early on in the film.) Jamie Foxx is no Morgan Freeman as the President, but I’m sure he’ll pull it off well. It looks like a much more elaborate and lovingly crafted film than Butler’s film, but I just don’t know enough about it yet. Not enough!
Anyway, trailer below!
