Conan O’Brien’s ejection from The Tonight Show and re-found justification on TBS is one of the most bittersweet stories of the past few years. NBC wasn’t pleased with his inability to entertain The Tonight Show‘s geriatric audience and they booted him for it. It’s for that very same reason, his ability to generate tons of internet views amongst a younger audience, that TBS is keeping him around for a bit longer.
Conan was already contracted out to air on TBS until at least April 2014, but the network decided, eh, why not? O’Brien’s show averaged 906,000 viewers last year, which is about a third the audience of the Big Three’s shows between Leno, Letterman, and Kimmel. Admittedly, I stopped watching the show in its entirety after a week, but the occasional snippets through his TeamCoco.com, a site that generates two million visits a month, keep me on the regular whenever possible.
