Hoo boy was I excited when Warp announced that a new Boards of Canada album was in the wings. Due out June 11th in the US (right in the middle of E3, of course), Tomorrow’s Harvest is the group’s first LP since 2005. Yeah, it’s been that long. Well, today they dropped the first single off the record, titled “Reach For The Dead”. Yeah, it’s weird to say “single” in the context of a BoC release.
The track itself is largely BoC’s traditional moody attenuation, but near the three-minute mark, they bring in some crisp drums to kick it up a notch. This is practically action film music for the Scottish duo. I just want it so much more now. Also a star is the accompanying music video, shot in what looks like the sun-drenched decay of the American southwest. Director Neil Krug toys with exposure and focus in each of his shots, creating a weird grindhouse aesthetic. It’s fab.
