Vikings On History Channel – Why Didn’t I Know About This?

So, I was looking around at some of my viewing options the other day and came across “Vikings”, a new television show which is being aired on The History Channel. Being as I am known to regularly roll with our gamers in The Sons Of Odin, this is relevant to my interests so I turned it on and watched…well…all of it.

So this is the situation: The series follows the exploits of a “Northman” named Ragnar Lothbrok as he and some of his loyal friends raid, pillage, rape kill and burn their way to riches and glory.

The show stars Travis Fimmel as Ragnar Lothbrok and Katheryn Winnick as his wife Lagertha (hot wife, amirite??) as well as Gabriel Byrne as Earl Haraldson and Jessalyn Gilsig as his (also hot) wife Siggy.

The series starts with Ragnar taking his son Bjorn to what they refer to as “The thing” which appears to be viking slang for a bunch of people getting together to take care of business, including what direction they are all going to travel to do their raiding in the spring. The Earl wants to stick with the status quo and go East, where there isn’t much in the way of plunder, other that just enough to sustain them. Ragnar wants to go West, which nobody has attempted yet due to the problems with open water navigation.

Of course Ragnar has a trick up his sleeve.

From there it is intrigue, rape, gore, burning, murder, pillage, plunder and hot chicks as Ragnar tries to do what is best for his friends and the Earl tries to do what is best for himself.

If you haven’t checked out this show, I highly recommend it. I sat through all of season 1 in a day…it’s that good.
