Editor’s note: Ok…I’m a huge fucking noob and sunk my teeth into a rumor. I followed that up with a colossal misreading of a news post and a high school girl sized dose of over-excitement and made a booboo. The beta starts on APRIL 18th and 25th.
I’d say “so sue me” but you might so…Sorry folks! I’m a douche!
Read on and insert the correct dates, in your mind.
AWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWW yeah! If you purchased the Epic version or Bulletstorm, you’ll be playing the Gears of War 3 beta in a matter of hours.
For the rest of you noobs, you can get in on the beta on March 25th if you pre-ordered the Limited or Epic editions of Gears 3.
In the beta, you’ll be able to unlock several unique items, through game play. Epic told Eurogamer that the reason for this is to get the beta participants to play for as long as possible so they are able to get a good data pool.
Here’s a list of some of the unlockables:
Thrasball Cole character variant: Play 50 matches. (To unlock this variant for use in the main game: play 10 matches as him during the beta (for a total of 60 matches))
The Beta Tester Medal: Awarded for completing one match.
Gold-Plated Retro Lancer: Apparently this is an item which can ONLY be unlocked by participating in the beta. (Per Epic) this item is a symbol of a player’s “ultimate Gears of War fandom” and can be unlocked by completing 90 matches. You will need to score 100 kills with it, during beta play, in order to unlock it for the full game.
The beta version of Gears 3 will contain 4 maps : Trenches, Checkout, Thrashball and Old Town.
So that’s it, kiddies…Prepare to get your Gears on!
