It couldn’t have happened to a better game: Marble Blast Ultra, the best marble simulator/platformer ever released is now gone forever.
Well, maybe not forever, but indefinitely.
The game was pulled this week in response due to GarageGames’ loss of the Marble Blast IP. The company has been in rough shape the past few years and the property was lost in the shuffle between it and its InstantAction, which was formerly a utility that let you play full games through a web browser (well, primitive games like Monkey Island, anyway.)
I cannot tell you how many hours I put into MBU, the game was my favorite Xbox 360 release from the humble early years of the console. In short, you were a marble that had to roll, slide, and jump your way through various levels to reach the goal at each end. Each level sported a leaderboard and I have to say it’s one of the few times that the competitive features baked into Xbox Live sent me back through again and again attempting to improve my times. On top of that, the game, while simple, was a candy-colored dream world and a pleasure to look at.
We at FleshEatingZipper are going to miss the heck out of ya, Marble Blast Ultra.
