This evening, June 29th, Blizzard Entertainment released World of Warcraft patch 4.2; Rage of the Firelands
The new patch includes item level 365 gear, a new raid in the firelands, a TON of new dailies, some new epic mounts, etc…
Basically, it’s a hunk of shit…just like Cataclysm was. It’s all baubles and trinkets and stuff designed to keep players so busy grinding away at daily quests and recipe drops that they forget they’re taking it in the salad shooter from the fine folks at Blizzard.
Let’s face it, folks – World Of Warcraft hasn’t been “good” for years. Not since right around the time they made the dungeon finder so people wouldn’t have to interact with one another to excel. Then it REALLY went in the shitter when they released Wrath of the Lich King and made it so every boss fight was a DPS race and a player’s ability was judged entirely on their “gear score” and which build they used.
What a sack of horse doody.
So now we have a bunch more really stupid daily quests, some more epic mounts to chase after, more gear to attain (simply by getting lucky on a need roll, not through any actual skill at playing a game) and another boss to slap around.
The graphics haven’t changed substantially since release, the gameplay has gone downhill faster than a bowling ball in a vacuum and Blizzard is hemorrhaging players at a massive rate.
Here’s my opinion ; If Blizzard doesn’t do something to very substantially change the direction the game is going, they’re going to lose the whole thing. They’ve already admitted that the game is not sustainable, for the long term, in the state it is currently in but they’re not willing to do anything to make it stop sucking. They’ve done nothing, in the last few years, except make the game more and more of a button masher in which you excel purely on the amount of time you are able to spend grinding raids with pick-up-groups and how lucky you get when it’s loot time.
That’s all this hunk of crap has been boiled down to.
As for me, I’m waiting for something new to hit which doesn’t end up looking and feeling like WoW with a new skin on it. Until that happens, I’m out of the MMO genre. I’m voting with my wallet and my vote is a resounding “Kiss My Ass”.
Now, in case you care, here’s the really lame trailer for the new patch.
