From Dust Review With Gameplay

I love me some Xbox Live Summer of Arcade! From Dust looked so fun to me that I had to be the one to give it a preview. Well that preview turned into a review and I added some gameplay from one of my favorite levels.

From Dust is developed by Ubisoft Montpellier and is hella fun. You are “the breath” of the tribe and you have to build villages at totems then eventually move on. It has that Black & White feel except you’re not God but you can pick up dirt/sand, water, lava and trees. There are 13 levels to beat and to truly beat them you have to grow vegetation on the entire map. The camera took a little bit to get used to as well as the controls but once you get those down it’s way more fun.

Each totem you capture on the map give you a special power. My favorite combination was “amplify” (which amplify’s another power) and “infinite earth” (infinite dirt/sand), with these you can build islands, walls and bridges throughout the map.

Once you think you have beaten the game you are in for a surprise that is both fun and challenging. I spent over an hour on the map wanting to give up so many times but finally I was able to beat it. The timed challenges are pretty fun also, you have one mission and you need to do it in the fastest way possible, most of the time you are racing against the clock to make sure your village isn’t destroyed.

You can pick the game up on XBLA or PC for $15. I’ve heard that it will be out for PS3 sometime in the future. It’s definitely something you should pick up and it will take about 6 hours to beat it if you are really quick or if you are like me, 8 hours.
