Crime Story is the latest Android game released by Game Insight, a company which is becoming fairly prolific in the marketplace.
This is their third major release in just a few months and, so far, seems to be the best made.
The game starts with a short narrative about being a child and getting attacked by a dog. Your brother stepped in and saved you, after which the two of you were inseparable.
At some point, your brother moved away and was sending letters on a very regular basis but then, suddenly, the letters stopped. Your family became very concerned and you set off to find out what was going on.
At this point, the game starts and you’re standing at a dock area where you’re quickly attacked by one of the dock workers for being an outsider. Kick his ass, take his phone and start doing his jobs to make money, earn respect, buy weapons, fight your enemies and work your way up the levels.
I’ve only got a couple of hours into the game so far but I can tell you that the graphics are solid and smooth, the gameplay is fast, with no lulls between jobs and fights and the story is interesting…Work your way up to becoming a powerful boss-type and find your brother so you can rescue him and reunite the family…yeah, it’s been done before but it’s still a good story.
The only issue I see with the game, so far, is the translation to English. Game insight is a Russian company and their Google translate seems to be on the fritz. While they are able to get their points across, they do so in a way that’s clearly translated by someone, or something, whose grasp on the English language is tenuous, as they misuse slang, have poor sentence structure and, in a few cases, leave entire words out of a sentence.
While this doesn’t ruin the game, by any means, it does detract from the experience slightly. It’s certainly not a deal breaker but I’d like to see them clean it up in future updates to this game and in future releases of other games.
At this point I’ll say that if you’re looking for a solid, pretty, action rpg on your Android, Crime Story won’t let you down.
As for Game Insight, at this point they’re 2 for 3 in my book. I’ve played and reviewed 3 of their titles and the first and third are solid pieces of work. Here’s hoping that second release was an anomaly.
