Skyrim Guide – Alchemy – FEZ Style!

So you’re playing some Skyrim and you’re at the point where you’re oblivious to the world and you want to make some potions, but you have no idea what to do, right?

Well, never fear, FEZ is here!

Here, we’re going to break down how alchemy works and what every…single…ingredient…in the game does.

Ready? Here we go!

The first thing you need to know is where to get the goodies. That’s easy! Go out and find them, while your partner makes you a nice turkey sandwich.

You’re going to find alchemy ingredients in one of a few ways, namely:

  • Killing things
  • Finding them laying around, picking them from plants or, in the case of bugs, catching them.
  • Buying them at an NPC vendor (Also known as “going broke”)
  • Stealing them.
Be careful when stealing, of course, because if you get caught, IT’S YO ASS!
Now once you’ve gotten all of the ingredients you’re going to need, you will have to find an alchemy lab. There are many throughout the world of Skyrim and at least one in every town, usually in the alchemy shop. They’ll look something like THIS:
Once you’ve found the lab, it’s time to get ta mixin’! You’ll select and combine ingredients in order to create potions or poisons with various effects. For best results, mix 2 or more ingredients with the same “first effect” to get that effect at the best possible strength.

For example, you’ll get a better “restore magicka” potion from ectoplasm and elves ear than you would from elves ear and white cap because the ectoplasm and elves ear both have the “restore magicka” effect as their primary where, with white cap, it is the third effect.
Got it? Good!
Now all that’s left is to figure out which ingredients have which effects and it’s off to the races! Fortunately, we’ve done all of the research for you and here we present the OFFICIAL, FleshEatingZipper list of what the hell does which.
Unfortunately, our table tool makes the baby Jesus cry so you’re going to have to do with fat, ugly lines until I figure it out.

Good LORD that’s a lot of stuff.

Now, we’re not 100% certain this is every ingredient in the game but we are 100% certain that’s every one we have found, so far. If you know of more, drop us a line and we’ll get it on the list.

Happy mixing, ya druggies!

ummm your table can be fixed by right clicking on the table and going to “table properties” then reduce the border size to “0” or “None” and this should be synonymous with any border maker from Apple to Microsoft. OR you can change the CODE directly by changing the following

    • Rob

Right.  I did it with no border but then it just looks like a chicken took a shit and then wiped it’s ass on the table.

I was looking for something that popped but, alas, I’m a writer not a brick-layer :(

Thank you for an amazing article.

This question is more for the community then anything else: What is the most expensive potion you were able to make? Just wondering what everyone came up with.

    Thank you.

OH i forgot something i was on the quest where ya need to poison the (fake) emperor where ya get the jarrin root. I didnt go out there immediatly i went to do some alchy stuff and ate it by accident (thank god for f5 saves) so it killed me however i figured id use it in a recipe and without any skill if ya make a poison recipe with it, you get something like :

        jarrin root + deathbell + ?
800 damage to health      (NOTE without perks without alchy gear)

When wearing full alchy gear ya get something like this
        jarrin root + deathbell + ?
6350 damage to health    (NOTE with perks and with alchy gear)

I added the ? cause ya can add any effect to it but it really doesnt matter if ya use this poison on a boss he will instantly die! ya can also replace the deathbell with something else as long as it has the damage health component ya will get 6350 damage to the poison!

If yer really desperate about getting more of these jarrin roots the alchemist in morthal sells them but very very rarely. Also they can be obtained by going to the area where the atronach stone is again very very rare i only found 12 sofar!

If yer too lazy tho here is the player.additem 1bcbc “x” try it out its nuts! just dont make too many or ya will realy numb down yer game experience!
