Star Wars: The Old Republic Guide – Companions And Affection (Warning: Spoilers)

Posted by on December 20, 2011 at 8:41 pm

One of the interesting Mechanics used in SWTOR is the inclusion of “companions” to the game. Now, when I say “companions”, I’m not talking about the kind that cost $400.00 an hour and require you to pay up front, I’m talking about the kind who travel the galaxy with you and do all of the tasks you’re just too busy to deal with.

One of the dynamics of the companion system is “affection” which relates to how much your companion likes you. The more they like you, the better they perform and more likely they are to succeed when given tasks. If they don’t like you at all, they’re unlikely to want to work too hard and that can be very frustrating.

It is for this reason that we have assembled this guide. To help you, the player, ensure that your companions love and respect you, and will do their utmost to help you succeed.

Read on!

So here’s how we’re going to do this.

We could certainly source images from about 100 different websites and show you what your companions will look like but I have a couple of issues with that. 1) I feel like that’s a little TOO much spoiling and 2) If you want to see pictures of them, you can scour the interwebs and find plenty…There’s no point is us putting them up here.

What I will do, however, is break this whole thing down by class to show you who is going to be hanging out with whom and then talk briefly about each person’s likes and dislikes, as well as companion gifts to make them happy. This should more than suffice to get you through the game.

And, with that, away we go!

Of course my tables are being lame but I can’t figure out a way to fix them without blowing up half the galaxy in the process, so…We’ll just deal with them being a little off center.

So what do all of these companions do? Well, they help you fight, they go on gathering missions to get you materials for crafting and they craft things for you. They also annoy the crap out of you when you do something you’re CERTAIN is going to make them happy and it pisses them off instead.

The most important piece of information you can have for dealing with your companions, as far as I am concerned, is what their likes and dislikes are. It is important that you check those things in the codex so you have an idea. That’s easy…it will tell you what kinds of things will make them happy (i.e. killing everyone or being kind to the unfortunate) and what makes them unhappy (i.e. NOT killing everyone or bullying people). Since that information is right at your fingertips, in the game, I’m going to skip it and instead talk about GIFTS. The little companion trinkets you can give your partners in crime to make sure they’re happy.

Go go the next page for the list!
