Today, Keith and I hit up 505 Games to check out their stealth assassin game Naughty Bear, which is being re-released as an arcade title this fall. Naughty is a murderous Teddy Bear who goes on a killing spree when he doesn’t get invited to a party. Apparently, it’s like a super-simplified version of Hitman… with Teddy Bears.
Just to give you an idea of the game’s goofy, tongue-in-cheek tone, the loading screen (called “loathing” screen) is a minigame with Naughty Bear throwing knives into a helpless bear’s chest.
You play as Naughty Bear and each level has you hunting down and assassinating a different target. The levels are themed – a sci-fi level, for example, features a group of bears parodying Star Wars characters. The game’s cranky main character and cute-meets-deadly visuals remind of Conker, sans the swearing.
For the gameplay, stealth is the key. You hide in the bushes to avoid detection, sneak up behind other teddy bears to grab them, don disguises and so on. You have to be sneaky or the other bears will attack you. Fortunately, you have several tools at your disposal, like masks and disguises, to go about your dastardly deeds.
You also have a plethora of methods to murder your fluffy targets. You can hide in the bushes and scare your targets into committing suicide You can even pitt the other Teddy Bears against each other. Naughty Bear shot another bear while disguised as a cop, causing the other bears to riot and attack the police.
Naughty Bear is scheduled to release on Xbox Arcade and Sony PSN this fall. Check out the demo video below for more.
