Over this past weekend an auction ended on eBay for a “Microsoft XBOX Durango Development Kit.” Yes, Durango as in code for whatever the new Xbox is going to be. This alleged development kit sold for just over $20,000. The seller, superDaE posted pictures of the development kit in July as well as leaked images of what the Kinect 2 sees so people are taking him to credible. How can you own it if it sold? Well DaE re-listed it saying the original buyer backed out.

Right now the current auction is over $30,000 so if you seriously want one, place your bid. Besides the legitimacy, there is the question of the legality. Is he allowed to sell this? According to his lawyers, yes. Yahoo says otherwise. “Development kits are never given or sold to game developers. They’re leased — and remain the property of the console manufacturer. They’re also in extremely short supply. And while there have been plenty of leaks, the NDA Microsoft has put into place surrounding Durango (the codename for the next system) has been called ‘draconian’ by people familiar with it.”

I’m not a lawyer and I don’t know Microsoft’s NDA for this so I’m just going to kick back and watch how this all unfolds. Even if I had the money to buy it, I wouldn’t have the foggiest idea on what to do with it.
