Weta Workshop Builds Valve A Real Portal Turret

Hello? Are you still there?

Many people have tried to replicate the mechanical goodness of Portal’s existentially-challenged turrets, but none have quite reached the fidelity of Weta’s new version. Shipped to Valve in a Aperture Science-themed box, the turret is pretty deluxe, as one would expect from the special effects house of Lord of the Rings and Avatar. Check out the unboxing video below!

As you can see from the video, the turret itself not only has mechanical arms that deploy its weaponry, but also comes with a rig of equipment with it, including a beefy speaker and control panel. Yeah, the turret can even ‘see’ targets and direct accordingly. Can you imagine stepping into Valve’s offices and being greeted by Miss Turret, who quickly deploys and starts shooting? Haha, that’d be a great way to welcome anyone! It wasn’t clear in the video if the turret slings any of its other idle chatter when it’s all alone, but I imagine that would be insanely annoying to anyone sitting nearby.

No, it’s not for sale.
