So. We all know that THQ is done (Which sucks, because we really liked them). We also know that they had handed development of Homefront 2 over to Crytek last year. Now that THQ has gone tango uniform, though, we have found out that Crytek has acquired the intellectual property rights for Homefront and will be taking over the whole show from here on out.
I am of the opinion that this is a good thing. Crytek has pumped out some good stuff in the past and while the idea of Homefront is a good one, the execution of the first release left quite a bit to be desired. This time around, though, things may be a little different…At least according to Nick Button-Brown, General Manager of Games at Crytek.
“From day one, the Homefront 2 team has been committed to creating a game that takes the series to new heights and features the level of quality and innovation associated with Crytek. Nothing has changed with regards our development of the game, and we look forward to sharing the finished product with players.”
Also, according to Crytek CEO Cevat Yerli;
“Since we first reached an agreement to develop Homefront 2, we’ve been firm believers in the IP and its potential to excite and amaze players. Our cooperation with THQ was always positive and we would like to thank them for all their support over the last two years and express our sympathy to those affected by the recent events at the company.”
This revelation bodes rather well for the future of the game. As I said, the first one wasn’t great. This time around we hope things will be different. Do us proud, Crytek.
