PAX East has been serving Boston since 2009, which seems so long ago, with no doubt record-breaking crowds with over 70,000 gamers converging on the Boston Convention and Expo Center for three days to play games, interact with other gamers, and experience a stress-free game environment that’s the opposite of, say, E3. Sadly, our year is PAX-free, despite my best intentions, but it’s nice to know a great event in gaming is happening right at this very moment.
Personally, I’ve never been to one, E3’s been my haunt, but that’s a remarkably different creature. Crawling the Twitter lines, I see so many tweets about media celebrities flying into Bean town for the weekend to see the show. Of course, I remember when the first Penny Arcade Expo began as a much smaller convention of <3,000 people in 2004, hosted in Bellevue. I’d wanted to see the show so much. The show has grown so much that they (obviously) introduced a show for the opposite coast, added another show internationally and added days, staff, bumped their venue, and much more.
Some day, FEZ fans, some day. If you’re at the show, be sure to drop a note in the comments below!
