2K’s going to put last year’s Game of the Year favorite XCOM: Enemy Unknown on iOS devices. Yep. They’ll even do it without sacrificing the gameplay and, as the video will have it, not much of its Unreal-powered visuals.
The ease of conversion might have a lot to do with the fact that the game still had a healthy PC version. Naturally, a port of the original game, with its full-effect interface, would’ve also been possible, it would’ve also been a complete drag to play on a mobile device. It makes sense that they chased iOS because of the platform doesn’t change that much and the devices are limited, making the choice of which hardware to develop for a non-question, but I have no doubt it’ll land on Android at some point in the future. When the 2K China-developed port does land on iOS later this year, it’ll be with a “premium price” because the game won’t support any in-app purchases. This is a blessing.
My question is: who’s going to play this on their still-miniscule iPhone 5? Four inches just ain’t enough, hon.
