Do you know Electronic Arts? The company with the talented developers and the dreaded management? The company that was voted worst of the year for the second consecutive time and their CEO resigned? The one that launched SimCity and hasn’t come close to fixing it? Microtransactions? Well, they’ll be the only ones making Star Wars games for a couple years.
Is it just my stomach churning? Obviously, Electronic Arts needs a hit and while The Old Republic wasn’t the smash hit they were hoping for, there are few franchises to license from that are as sturdy as Star Wars. Is this a better scenario than LucasArts was in for the past fifteen years? Sure is. How much of EA’s influence will we see bleed into their games? Hard to say. EA has said that DICE (Battlefield) and Visceral (Dead Space) will be making the games on top of Bioware’s own work, which makes sense. Does this mean Battlefront 3 is finally coming? What about TIE Fighter? Are we getting a Death Troopers game? Hmmm.
