Nvidia first stab at a gaming handheld is a shining achievement for them, but that’s not enough.

Nvidia dedicated an island at their big E3 booth this year to their new SHIELD handheld. It takes their powerful new Tegra 4 SoC processor and marries it to Android. This seems really practical in a lot of ways, it’s all very silly in a lot more. After some hands on, I can tell you Nvidia’s going to have a hard time selling this thing.

It’s Big And Bulky

It weighs slightly less than a full-sized iPad, but it’s folded into a compact clamshell package. Remember the Duke; the original Xbox controller? Imagine that, but even bigger and heavier in the hands. Coincidentally, the SHIELD is also modeled off the Xbox standard, minus the left joystick switch to allow it to be recessed.
