When I say that Hotline Miami just barely missed out on being my favorite game of the year last year, I mean just barely. The extremely violent and ultimately cathartic combat puzzler struck a deep cord with me and aside from a buggy PC release and a plot that didn’t quite go down the rabbit hole deep enough (as odd as that is to say), it’s easily one of the most unique games I’ve ever played. With gameplay footage of its sequel finally finding itself on the web, I wonder if it can reach the same heights – or exceed – its predecessor.
That Same Great Look
Hotline Miami was always too smooth and colorful to truly be considered 16-bit, something that would normally irritate me, but combined with some analog-esque distortion effects, a grindhouse film grit and some incredible graphic design, the game was retro in its own special way. This looks to be no different.
Of course, they’ve got a great new reason to butcher, too…
