Inside Google’s Network Room, Council Bluffs, IA

Want to know what the “cloud” looks like? The mysterious place where all your precious email, photos, videos and bank information is stored? Well maybe not your bank information, yet, when Google starts up Google Bank then we can see that. Until then let’s take a look at some extremely high-res photos and video of Google’s data centers around the world. There are awesome stats and just plain awesomeness.

If you didn’t know already, Google has custom made servers and server cases, they are not traditional and don’t look pretty but they are super efficient! If you look from a distance at the row it looks pretty with the LED’s. They use the LED’s to be able to easily glance to see that all the servers are running normal. If one is not the standard color they can easily spot it and fix/replace it. One thing I didn’t realize was that every piece of data is stored on two servers and that more important information is even stored on digital tape drives.

Now that you’ve watched the video above you will want to explore the Google data center. They have all kinds of crazy things going on around the building. Things I’ve noticed are a giant Android in a cage, sign that has sharp edges, a door warning, someone hiding in a robot, an employee getting Rickrolled (twice), a secret plan, R2D2 and a Stormtrooper Let us know what you find on your journey through the Google data center in the forum and comments!
