By now I’m sure you’ve seen the crazy vending machines that let you buy iPods, iPads and even gold. Well how about one that lets you checkout a MacBook? Yes, checkout. Drexel University is the latest school to implement a MacBook vending machine. The vending machine holds 12 15″ MacBooks that can be checked out for free by by anyone with a Drexel ID card.
Once checked out you have five hours to do what need to do, within the confines of the library. There is also a late fee of $5 per hour, if you go over that time. When the MacBooks are returned they automatically get wiped to its previous state and charged up.
Drexel University partnered with LaptopsAnytime to get a custom vending solution. “This was a great opportunity to match a specific student need with library staff’s ongoing exploration of cutting edge technologies. We expect the resulting initiative to improve the Drexel student’s academic experience,” stated Dr. Danuta A. Nitecki, Dean of Drexel University Libraries.
I really wish we had stuff like this in schools. The closest thing we had was a laptop cart that could be wheeled into classrooms when the teacher needed everyone to use a computer.
