Isn’t is the future already? Why are we still paying with cash, checks and carrying around wallets full of cards? Google Wallet has been trying to get NFC out there but have been getting blocked by wireless carriers because they have their own agendas that aren’t in fruition yet.
PayPal has been sliding under the radar because retailers are starting to accept PayPal as payments and now they have even announced a partnership with Gilbarco Veeder-Root (they make gas pumps and stuff) to bring PayPal payments to the pumps. I’m not sure where yet and if places will be upgrading but at least it’s another step in the right direction.
“Our customers recognize PayPal as a global leader in digital payment, and we are excited to work with them on this innovative payment solution and to collaborate on a number of other retail initiatives,” said Mike Schulte, President of Gilbarco North America. “The PayPal mobile solution will be a cornerstone of our suite of retail applications.”
I’m a huge fan of not having to use a bunch things to pay with, I would love to use a single app to that would allow me to select an account and then scan my phone to make a payment. Oh wait, I said there is one earlier but unfortunately I can’t use it.
