About a year ago, I liked Alex Trebek. Not the person, as it turns out, but an imposting facsimile on Facebook. I didn’t know it was a fake until after some homework, but it made me wonder what life would be like if Facebook verified who ran different pages and whether I should bother tossing them a Like or a Friend request. Well, Facebook took a page from Twitter’s book by now adding Verified accounts.

Now, the company’s only doing it with super-popular brand pages to start, like the above-pictured Selena Gomez or, y’know, Lunchables, but it’ll soon spread everywhere, even to Facebook profiles. Annoyingly, some people still establish two Facebook profiles, one for each of their personal and public lives, and Facebook wants to nip that little trend in the bud. Not only does it help people determine if someone’s a real someone at a glance, but it’ll also allow brands to more easily target customers since people will know they’re the real deal.

Trust us, people putting up fake FleshEatingZipper Facebook pages all the time is super annoying…
