The smash hit The Walking Dead returns tonight on AMC at 9 pm ET/PT. In addition to more zombie-killing goodness, what can we expect in Season 2?
When we last left Rick Grimes and his group of survivors, they had just blown the Atlanta CDC to smithereens. The survivors had learned that there is no cure and no hope of rescue from the government. Jacqui decided to stay behind and die, Andrea and Dale decided to live and Rick had just had some vital information whispered into his ear by CDC honcho Dr. Jenner.
My guess is Jenner said one of three things:
“Your wife is pregnant.”
“You’re all infected.”
“Your fly is down.”
Whatever it was, it’s just one of the many things that will be explored in Season 2, which picks up with Rick and friends seeking safe haven outside of Atlanta, eventually ending up at Hershel’s Farm, a location from Robert Kirkman’s comic book series.
Season 1 started with Rick shooting a little zombie girl in the head. If advanced buzz is to be believed, the Season 2 premieres with one of the most terrifying and suspenseful sequences even filmed for the small screen.
AMC is giving us the gift of 13 episodes this season. The first few were overseen by now-ousted creator, writer and co-executive producer Frank Darabont. There’s no telling yet how Darabont’s departure has affected the show, but his role has been taken over by Glen Mazzara, who comes with a strong pedigree (the Shield). Mazzara also wrote Episode 5, “Wildfire,” which was one of the more personal and dramatic episodes as Andrea mourns the death (and grim resurrection) of her sister Amy.
The Walking Dead is one of the most anticipated sophomore shows this fall. There are secrets to be uncovered, leadership roles to hash out and zombies to shoot. Lock your doors, turn off the lights and get ready for the zombie apocalypse…
