Ready to be disappointed with the rest of the world? The teaser of what could potentially have been a trailer for a Ferris Bueller sequel, turns out to be nothing but a Honda CR-V commercial. Let me reiterate how disappointed I am. However, this could be a blessing in disguise.
Honda might have started something. Thanks to their deceptive marketing tactics, people (including me) believed that a Ferris Bueller sequel was in the works. Based on how much hyper surrounded the teaser, how could Hollywood ignore the money signs flashing before their very eyes? I feel like this just created a double-edged sword. Here’s why.
If Hollywood were to produce such a film, who would direct it? John Hughes, the man who wrote and directed Ferris Bueller’s Day Off, died back in 2009. His talent to write and direct great films has yet to be matched by anyone else. Who would dare grab the helm to an incredibly difficult project? As much as I’d like to see another Ferris film, I’d hate for it to bomb.
I guess at the end of the day, it’s probably best to keep it as a homage to the movie and John Hughes. The commercial itself takes many elements from the film, almost scene for scene. Parts are campy, but seeing Broderick act as Ferris again at an older age brings back nostalgia. For those who haven’t seen the full commercial, check it out below!
