“Lincoln” Trailer A Boring Mess

“Lincoln” accurate in all the wrong places? Ah, just shoot me.

I love watching historic films – especially when they’re accurate. When I heard that Daniel Day-Lewis was going to be playing the 16th President of the United States of America in an epic biopic, I was thrilled. After watching the new trailer, I wish someone had shot me in the back of the head.

There’s several things that bothered me about this trailer. First of all, what’s with the fading shots? I feel like I’m one step closer to having an epileptic seizure because of it. Seriously, it’s like the trailer editor used the “epic” iMovie template. On second thought, maybe he didn’t use that. It would probably blow this epic piece of garbage out of the water.

Some people think that Lincoln had this big, deep burly voice. Based on historical documents, Abe was blessed with a high-pitched, whiny voice. Daniel’s portrayel of Lincoln seems to be spot on. I kind of wish he sounded like the Abraham Lincoln from Bill and Ted’s Excellent Adventure, but that’s me.

Last Thought

The trailer seems to really push the idea that the Civil War was based purely on slavery. If you’ve ever read a history book, you’ll know that it was one of the reasons not the only reason. It bothers me that they’d try so hard to get Abe’s horrible voice correct but leave out important historical information. Hopefully this is a result of poor editing and that I’m proven wrong November 9th.
