Attributed directly to Rob Thomas’ successful Veronica Mars Kickstarter, Zach Braff, known most famously as the dude in Scrubs, launched a Kickstarter for his new project, Wish I Was Here. Already at $1.2 million with 29 days to go, I don’t think he is going to have any issues coming up with the $2 million he is asking for.

Wish I Was Here is the follow up to Garden State, written by Zach and his brother, Adam, last summer. This isn’t a sequel, but will be told in the same fashion and mindset as Garden State. With Braff starring as Aidan Bloom, Wish I Was Here is about a 35-year old struggling actor and father who is still trying to find his purpose in life. When his ailing father can’t afford to keep his kids in private school, Aidan attempts to homeschool them, resulting in some funny chaos.

Braff explains that he wanted to launch this Kickstarter so he can retain creative control and final say, which is something he can’t achieve with by other means to finance the film now.

The $10,000 reward, the largest, gets you credited as a cast member with a line, is already gone. At $2,500, the extras rewards are going fast, too. Other reward levels include online screenings of the film, advanced screenings in cities around the world and being able to attend the screenings sitting in Zach’s row as well as hanging out at the after-parties. Interesting, though: none of the rewards include a copy of the movie.
