We’ve all seen Apples incentive for students who are looking to purchase an iMac or Macbook– they get a “free” 8GB iPod Touch! Most would consider that to be an awesome deal but when you’re spending over 1K for a basic computer, it’s almost a slap in the face. There’s only one other company that I can think of who’s willing to go one step further to buy a student’s heart. Oh hello there, Microsoft. Why don’t you take a seat over there, after the break.
Today, Microsoft announced a very special offer for students that will be difficult to say no to. Buy a new Windows 7 PC priced at $699 and you’ll get a FREE Xbox 360**! So instead of using your new Windows 7-based computer for homework, you can stream pirated episodes of House to your FREE Xbox 360. Awesome, brah.
What is Microsoft trying to gain here? I just don’t understand this one. Now a free iPod Touch– a device that holds music, data, and has the ability to use multi functional apps that can make life for a student more convenient– I get that. But as someone who’s been through college and has seen first hand how distracting video games can be, I expect a shit show of dropouts.
Perhaps I’m being a little over the top. What are your thoughts?
**It’s the handicapped, 4GB version. Lame.
