Have a PC? Want to play SimCity? SimCity Is Awesome? Yes It Is?! …uh, well, anyway, there’s a beta you can sign up for (sorry, Mac fans) so you can play the game (in confidence) a full six months before it’ll be on store shelves, or digital shelves.
SimCity has not had a solid title in well over a decade (I’d argue two) and now it’s time for EA to bring the boys back to the yard (for the milkshakes, preferably). I’m deathly afraid of the thick layer of EA that the game probably features upon startup, and in and around each corner and I hope the game works despite it. In applying for this Beta, you’ll first have to sign up with your Origin account, which is the gaming equivalent of filing taxes. I even had to recover my password because I forgot it was one of those sites where I needed a capital letter. (ProTip: you needed to put a capital letter in your Origin account, which, if you’re like me, you haven’t used in months.) After that, you’re asked to sign the big long Terms Of Usage, which includes all your standard Confidentiality and Warranty information. Yeah, I actually read it all the way through. Then you get a brief questionnaire about how much you enjoy gaming and SimCity, then a strange field to dump a random text file. I don’t know what it is, it’s probably not even supposed to be there, but I just gave them a random text file. UPDATE: Check the DXDiag instructions at the top of the survey. Maybe they weren’t there when I checked it or I’m just stupid, but there’s definitely something supposed to be there!
Anyway, sign up so you can play and then not talk about it at all!
