New Sci-Fi Horror Game ‘Routine’ Digs The Eighties, Oculus Rift Support

There’s nothing routine here!

What if they made a game out of Duncan Jones’ Moon? What if it had all the same tantalizing, horrific traits that made System Shock 2 and Dead Space so freakish? Well, that’s what we’re getting out of next year’s Routine. You’re arrived at the Lunar Research Station to explore what happened to the inhabitants there who have suddenly disappeared. More details and teaser video below!

Routine has a number of things going for it. The game is being developed by a small team of three (super indie!) and will not feature any sort of HUD. You’ll need to figure stuff out on your own. The game is intensely atmospheric and draws on eighties science-fiction, which may sound familiar to our readers, and the game is being developed with support for the Oculus Rift VR headset in mind to bring that fear closer than before. The lunar lab is actually laid out for exploration, rather than as a corridor shooter, so you’ll have plenty of opportunity to seek new thrills and approach the game in different ways each time. Also: death is permanent. You die, you start over.

I’ll be keeping a close eye on this as it draws closer, if it doesn’t set my brain on fire or something.
