Chris Roberts’ Star Citizen Crowd Funding Finishes At Over $6M

A few weeks ago, I wrote about Chris Roberts’ upcoming space sim “Star Citizen” and again a couple of days ago I wrote about the idea of getting back in to a space sim got me so amped up that I’d been sucked back in to X3:Albion Prelude. Well, as of this afternoon Chris Roberts site,, has stopped accepting crowd funding and has announced their total.

Earlier today, I was trying to get in to his site so I could get an update and the site was crashing all over the place because of how much traffic was trying to get in there so people could get their last shot at reserving a ship and getting in on the alpha and beta test phases of development. When I last looked, the site was at 87,290 “likes” with 1 hour and 3 minutes left to go before crowd funding was shut off.

As of now (just about 8 hours later) the site is at 90,283 likes, and growing…All of those people jumped in to get ahold of their various pre-order packages which contain different ships, in-game money bonuses, citizen cards and more.

And here’s how the crowd funding went. Roberts was originally asking to get $2 million to fund the completion of the game, which they haven’t announced a release date for yet but have some good working parts of already. Along with the original goal of $2M, there were several stretch goals announced which, if met, would allow for more functionality and updates…basically telling people “you give us more money, we give you more game” which, if you ask me, is perfectly fair.

So here’s how the stretch goal schedule was laid out:

“We Have Liftoff!”

The stuff in italics was released recently, as the stretch goals began to get pushed and more money came in. They haven’t updated the site with all of the “mission achieved” updates but they hit a grand total of $6,277,360 which means they blew the goals right out of the water.

This means that the game is going to come out as a big, massive, head-sploder of a title and that makes me happy because I bought in to the early-pre-order and got in on the crowd funding which means I get goodies, I get to play in the alpha, I get to play in the beta and then I get to mess up your face when the game releases.

In space, your mommy won’t be able to hear you call out for her in terror. Prepare to get you some when this one comes out.

And all the best of luck to Chris and his team. We’re really, really, REALLY looking forward to getting our hands on this one.
