What this software does is allow you to plug in numbers to match the shooting speed of any of the weapons you usually use in your favorite FPS games and then make adjustments to the offset caused by recoil. In effect, it makes the mouse automatically pull back and to the side for you, whenever you fire your weapon. This allows you to mash the fire button and spray a cloud of lethal projectiles without having to worry about resetting your aim.
When I hear about this, I expressed concern to the makers about the idea that the software is doing the work for you and that this could easily be considered cheating – They agree. They say that this feature isn’t intended to be used competitively, it’s intended for novice players, to make the games a little easier for them by automatically handling one of the mechanics which veteran players do by instinct, thereby leveling the playing field a bit.
I can agree with the concept of “training wheels”, but when you’re playing online against other people, it still feels a little cheat-y or, as Matt Higby from Sony Online Entertainment put it, “it’s like playing with a corked bat”, essentially giving an unfair advantage to the user. Again, the manufacturer agrees and says that they would never condone someone using a feature like this competitively.
Here’s a video which will show you just how much of a difference it can make.
Once this overlay pops up, you can adjust the firing rate with the scroll wheel and the amount of virtual down-force on the mouse with the 4th and 5th buttons. As could be seen in the video, it can make a huge difference in no time at all. I’ve never used this program in ARMA 3 and I dialed it in pretty quickly.
So what do I think of this mouse?
