The LEGO train keeps chugging! The Danish block maker recently unveiled their officially-themed Minecraft set. Now I don’tk now about you, but this seems like the best cross-promotional tie-in ever. Yes, even better than Taco Bell in Demolition Man.
Realistically, the instructions for this set could be one page long – create sand block x50, dirt block x50, and so forth – but instead LEGO had crafted four vertical interlocking chunks of Minecraft world, not unlike what you’d see in the game. They’ve really gone out of their way to reproduce a random landscape plus a primitive wood hut that can be arranged to your heart’s content. In keeping with the theme, you also don’t get Minecraft mini-figs, but rather a standard hero and a creeper in block form (thankfully, there won’t be any blowing up of playsets unless…). This seems far more like a tribute to Minecraft than an accurate replication of the game, so don’t go expecting to lay down epic structures with these like you would in the game, but that’s more than fine. This set seems juuuuuust right for what it’s trying to accomplish: that is to bring the block game into the block game.
The set comes out this summer and you can pre-order it today for $34.99.
